I usually want to say something political, and that is what is utmost on my mind.

I watched two Matt Dillahunty posts this afternoon. He first discussed his debates about "Magic and Skepticism", then he critiqued his debate with Dr. Jordan Peterson. Matt is awesome.

I also follow Aron Ra. He has a great series about the systematic classification of life. This guy really knows his stuff.

Well, that is it for now. I just wanted to document these random thoughts.Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-48782006292183878682016-10-29T15:16:00.000-07:002016-10-29T15:16:15.028-07:00Checkin' In ...I have done a shitty job of writing this blog (obviously). Anyway, here is an update:
I have a new job, as of 1 August 2016. I'm working for Comcar Industries, Inc. I have always wanted to learn about logistics and with this company, I am. My boss has only been here three months before me, so we're both learning. He does have lots of trucking logistics experience, and he has a great managerial style too.

There are only a handful of other developer types here at Comcar. We have lots of legacy HPUX C code and it's a challenge to maintain a codebase from 1993! But it's a great place to spend my last programming years.

There are many employees that have over 40 years of service with Comcar! That says a lot about the culture of the company. One would think that people would be stodgy. But there are a lot of new HR concepts that are being implemented and most of the people seem to go with the flow.

Well, it's happened once again: Verifone laid-me off yesterday. So, if anyone needs a UNIX/Linux C++ developer, let me know!

He had a very serious case of COPD and it finally took his life.

The nine-year-old Keith took it pretty hard. I heard a few people at work actually gasp out loud when they heard the news.

I'm glad he is finally at rest.

Well after five years as a full-time programmer and eight months before that as a contractor, Elavon has eliminated my position. I wasn't the only one to suffer the same fate.

They let go a very skilled and valuable programmer who had been at Elavon for over fifteen years. All in all I think four or five people got the axe.

So if you hear of anyone needing an old, UNIX-C++/C programmer who knows relational databases, TCP/IP, UNIX IPC resources, and lots of other APIs and such, have them

I've been busy -- or at least I think I've been busy.

Cooper Marketing Solutions started going nutz and all of a sudden there are lots of new products to write! That is great, and it's fun for me; however, it really eats into my Guak-A-Mole time! Not only do I still suck at electronics, but now I have even less time to work consistently on it; And I keep forgetting where I am, and what I still need to research.

You know, all of that is really OK. Most all of the money goes into savings for retirement. And someday, I'll might get to have the time to work on my projects, and increase my knowledge about electronics (Monkeys are filing flight plans right now for the trip out of my ass ...)

I'll write more tomorrow (yeah, right!)

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-13288432761376380322012-01-17T16:46:00.000-07:002012-01-17T16:46:14.537-07:00Update for today ...Well, I have good news, and bad news. The good news is that Cheryl and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary back on 12 Jan 2012!

The bad news is that I suck at electronics!

I'll never finish the Guacamole project in time for Caiden's birthday ...Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-3894470510947388842011-12-31T16:53:00.002-07:002011-12-31T16:53:42.605-07:00Happy New Year!I thought I would wish everyone a very Happy New Year, peace to us all, prosperity and health, and mostly, love in our lives!

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-82021930423541762052011-12-20T14:38:00.000-07:002011-12-20T14:38:09.413-07:00Guac-A-Mole Update for 20 December 2011 ...I actually started and finished a task in one day on this project! I only had to make one extra trip to Home Depot! I built the display board frame! It took me awhile to get it square, but I finally got it close. I made the frame out of 2X2s. My idea was to make it 30" X 30" and attach it to the Guac-A-Mole with hinges. I bought the hinges but i didn't mount it yet as I need to do work on installing the score board and the clock. Cheryl's idea was to mount then on the right side of the board, so that's what I did.

I used "Handy Panel" for the covering. We will decorate it with drawings on poster board and then glue the pictures to the display board.

Slowly but surely it's coming together ...

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-64254379473024552372011-12-20T08:59:00.000-07:002011-12-20T08:59:43.925-07:00That was too close ...I went to Harbor Freight yesterday, and I'm in the store about one minute -- I hear pandamonium outside: A woman was carjacked at gunpoint right outside the door! Before I understood what was going on, the perp was turning East on Fletcher in the poor woman's blue car! She's OK and the sherriffs were there pretty quickly.

I always thought that I would fight back in a situation like that -- which is a stupid idea. I have second-guessed my not jumping into my car to try to follow the goons in the lady's car. I have since reasoned that they would have given me the slip pretty quickly. Yeah, that's the ticket ...

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-41210842178350009582011-12-16T19:54:00.000-07:002011-12-16T19:54:50.783-07:00Guac-A-Mole Update ...Well, I have six days off in a row! Woo-hoo! I don't go back to work until the 21st! I have been doing a little soldering on the scoreboard circuit, and I bought the wood for the display board.

I also ordered some hardware from McMaster-Carr. Some things that should be found anywhere aren't! That really pisses me off!

I hope to have more of an update soon. It's getting too close to Caiden's birthday!

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-28884452860320765542011-12-04T09:29:00.001-07:002011-12-04T09:34:59.981-07:00'Pokes Smash Sooners
Well, that wasn't good! It was 44 to 10.

But the Sooners had a pretty good year. We were Number One for awhile. As it turned out, the sports writers were correct in down-rating us in mid-season.

I hope that the injured players heal, and we come back stronger next year. Maybe ... maybe ...

Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-41194604066944022922011-11-24T19:12:00.001-07:002011-11-24T19:22:10.881-07:00A Little Progress ...Well, I made some progress today. I was hoping to finish one of the characters so that I could test the air compressor and its installation. It turns out that the right-angle brackets I bought are too long. Also the 4-40 1" screws for the two switches are too short. I found some 1 and 1/4" screws, but I had to drill extra holes to make everything line up.
I found two wood screws to mount the air cylinder to the top plate and I have everything together on that first character. I ran out of time though because today is Thanksgiving and I have to help Cheryl cook.
So we took a nap, and overslept about a half an hour. We got it all done though -- just Cheryl and me! We did the same salt brine technique on the turkey and it turned out great! It wasn't "wangy" to Cheryl (she pretty much hates turkey) and it wasn't too salty for me.
Before we ate, I called Marty and Brian. Brian didn't answer (he's a busy guy) and I spoke with Marty for a few minutes. She did the cooking this year and it turned out great, as I knew it would! Then I called my sister Judy. They had a great Thanksgiving meal! She is making progress on the Guac characters!
This year Cheryl added Grand Manier to her CBS (cranberry sauce) and it is a keeper! Her dressing and gravy turned out fabulous as usual. We got done with supper and had it all cleaned up by 2100. Cheryl is fast asleep on the couch. I don't know how I would live without her! She is my everything!
I have to work tomorrow, so I'll try to work on the project on Saturday.
Later ...Koothhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04545352577666475075noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2734208457605974556.post-38472433882024655482011-11-23T16:20:00.000-07:002011-11-23T16:20:23.965-07:00Guac-A-Mole ...As I mentioned earlier, I'm working on a variation of the classic "Whack-A-Mole" game for my grandkids. I got the idea from the Instructables site here. He uses the "Veggie-Tales" characters. We're calling our version "Guac-A-Mole" -- it's going to have peppers, onions, and other vegetables as the "moles."

Although I'm supposed to finish it in time for this Christmas, I'm way behind. More updates to follow.
